Treatment for Bruxism, Migraines, and TMJ Dysfunction
What do teeth grinding and clenching (bruxism), chronic migraines, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction have in common? Not much. However, these three very different chronic illnesses may all benefit from the same treatment – custom crafted mouthguards worn during sleep. These nightguards benefit patients who suffer from bruxism by placing a physical barrier between teeth preventing wear and damage that may occur. Nightguards are also crafted to position the TMJ in their ideal alignment relieving pain and improving jawbone mobility. Migraines may be a result of the chronic grinding and clenching or the strain of the TMJ, and nightguards that improve symptoms of either may also reduce the number of headache days.
